NAS Dar Airco Collaborates with NIT for Aviation and Transport Training Dar es Salaam, Tanzania : Monday, January 17, 2022 National Aviation Services (NAS) in Tanzania, NAS Dar Airco, signed a five years Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Transport (NIT) for training and internships. NIT, a public higher learning institution based in Dar Es Salaam is the only such training institute in the Sub-Saharan region excluding South Africa, mandated by the Government of United Republic of Tanzania to offer training in transport and allied fields. NAS is the fastest growing airport services provider in the emerging markets and the largest airport services provider in Africa. In Tanzania, NAS is the only ground handler to be part of such a MoU, that will offer on-the-job training opportunities to young Tanzanians and help widen their scope for future employment. The program is part of NAS’s social responsibility initiatives and includes training for aircraft maintenance engineers or technicians, cabin crew, airport operations officers, flight operations officers, automobile engineers or technicians as well as airport drivers’ jobs. Customer service training also helps open up a range of opportunities in different industries locally. Following the signing of the MoU, NAS and NIT will work together to define a road map for further implementation of the training plans. Professor Costa Ricky Mahalu, NAS Africa Board Member and Miguel Serra, General Manager of NAS Dar Airco represented the company at the signing of the MoU. Prof. Mahalu highlighted, “Tanzania is an extremely important part of NAS’s growing network. Since we kicked off operations here, we have attempted to do our part in developing the Tanzanian aviation sector and creating job opportunities for the local population. The signing of this MoU is the first of its kind towards cooperation between a government entity and private sector for training and internship programs in the country. As we continue our operations and growth in Tanzania, we intend to make NIT a center for all our future manpower requirements.” Since 2018, NAS Dar Airco has been running an internship program where qualified graduates from different institutions were selected for a six-month practical training, 10% of the graduates were retained as permanent staff while others received enough on the job experience to secure opportunities in other organizations. In the last three years, NAS has also invested in training for its employee base in Tanzania and strives to ensure the best quality of services for its airline customers at airports in Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Dodoma. Professor Zacharia Mganilwa, Rector of NIT explained that the MoU will provide opportunities to the institute’s aviation and transport logistics students to get practical training at NAS Dar Airco in line with professional needs of the industry. He also noted, “The partnership will improve and strengthen the functioning of NIT’s School of Aviation and Technology to produce more and quality professionals who serves the market. We have also prepared a curriculum for airport vehicles and operations to help train airport vehicle drivers. This program will be commencing soon.” Globally, NAS is present in over 55 airports across Africa, the Middle East and South Asia, offering a range of airport services that include ramp and passenger services, cargo management, engineering and line maintenance, airport technologies, fixed base operations, terminal management, aviation training, travel solutions, lounge management and meet-and-assist packages.
