National Aviation Services (NAS) in Kenya – NAS Siginon Aviation Ltd. (NAS Siginon) installed a 176.8 kilowatts peak (kWp) solar power plant to generate electricity at its premises in the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. The plant includes 390 solar panels and is a part of the company’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Functional since January 2021, the solar plant powers the cold rooms and perishables center at the NAS warehouses as well as the main office block. Last year, the power plant surpassed targets by producing 96,750 kWh.

While this initiative is in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, it also has economic benefits helping save costs and reducing the company’s dependency on Kenya’s national power grid.

This project also fits with NAS’s sustainability program to protect and preserve the environment.
